Electro-Fenton treatment process for brewery wastewater: effects of oxidant concentration and reaction time on BOD and COD removal efficiency

Abstract The brewing process consumes and releases a large amount of wastewater into the environment. objective this study was to determine optimum operating conditions for treatment brewery using Electro-Fenton (EF) process. EF has been applied wide variety pollutants due its ability remove complex recalcitrant water contaminants. Brewery contains amounts biodegradable non-biodegradable compounds which are suitable effect hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O ) concentration reaction time (RT) on biological oxygen demand chemical investigated. with an initial BOD COD 423.76 mg/l 854.86 respectively subjected changing H concentrations 250, 500, 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000 times 30, 45, 60, 90, 120 min. Other such as ferric-sulfate catalyst concentration, voltage, electrode spacing, pH were maintained constant. showed considerable changes after applying Removal efficiencies significant ( p < 0.05), up 96.91% (423.76–13.04 mg/l) 93.16% (854.86–58.5 mg/l), respectively. Results further increasing favored removal. efficiency analyzed analysis variance (ANOVA) graphical plot. removal 88.96% (46.79 (58.51 observed at 2000 min time. Optimized experimental performance have discussed in literature. treated shows that there is reduction compared raw wastewater. Therefore, it suggested be removing BOD, COD, some other pollutants. can reused or safely disposed
